DISCE QUASI SEMPER VICTURUS VIVE QUASI CRAS MORITURUS

I've decided to have this as my life's motto. "Learn like you'll never die; Live like you'll die tomorrow." Fitting, innit?

Gladiator

I just watched Gladiator again on VCD today.

An excellent, excellent movie in my opinion. I would go as far to say the quality of the acting, story and script goes as far as to nullify its historical inconsistencies and inaccuracies. Call me a history buff if you must, but I do feel that movies should at least stick to the right era when it comes to props, backdrops and military maneuvers. Gladiators main historical boo-boo was the fact that the Roman army in the beginning of the movie didn't maintain the proper formation of their line, the Quincunx formation, during the opening scene of the movie. If you wanna know more about it , just click here. They were all-out-into-the-fray almost as much as the Gauls which was a big no-no.

Formations aside, the movie was excellent. I think this must have been the 20th time I've watched it, and I think I still could watch it again. My favorite scene just has to be the final fight scene between the Emperor and Maximus. Brother against Adopted Brother, friend turned to foe, the climactic end to a great general and a tear jerking death of a martyr. Who could ask for more out of a movie, triumphs, friendship, drama, death and war with a sprinkling of back-stabbing intrigue ruthless bloody-mindedness. A great movie of which i see becoming a classic if it hasn't already done so (seeing that it came out 6 years ago!).

Cardio Results for Yesterday

Yesterday was cardio day... Went quite well methinks... Used the airwalker set to difficulty lvl 5 for 15mins, brought my heart rate up 175-180bpm's... Then thought better slow down a bit (didn't wanna give myself a heart attack) so set the difficulty rating back down to 4... Heart rate hovered at 168-173bpm's... Still in the red but getting better i suppose. Now i feel I'm pushing myself more, first few times i kept my steps per minute (spm's) low, about 100-110, yesterday kept it at a constant 130spm's... Getting better day by day!!!

Today is Lower Body Day, have no records on my last few sessions so can't really comment about it... just to a little note to say that i just purchased creatine monophosphate and methoxy whey protein shakes... Apparently, the shake has anabolic properties... hmm.. well we'll see if it dies n if there's any affect...

UrbanProphet's Exercise Program

So as not to clutter my original blog with unnecessary posts i decided to open up another blog to track my progress through my program. I'm actually on Day 4, Week 2.... Here's yesterdays results... Yesterday was lower body day...

Vertical Traction Machine : Dorsal & Biceps
Set 1 (50kg's) : 12 Reps
Set 2 (55kg's) : 6
Notes : Might have over done it a bit here think I'll lower the weights to 45 to see if I can do 12 & 8 reps.

Chest Press : Pec's Triceps & Delt's
Set 1 (35kg's) : 12
Set 2 (35kg's) : 5
Notes : Again had too much weights on, lower it to 30kg's & try for 12 & 8 reps.

Low Row : Upper Back
Set 1 (30kg's) : 12
Set 2 (30kg's) : 12
Notes: Wow, this set was great i actually enjoyed it... Will increase to 35 and try for 12 & 8 reps next time around... I think i should stick this exercise right at the back next time... Strongest muscles for me, my back....

Arm Curl : Biceps
Set 1 (15kg's) : 9
Set 2 (15kg's) : 6
Notes: This was a messed up set... all of the other machines required me to use my biceps so my mate Monkey Rock advised me to put this exercise right at the beginning next time... Definitely need to strength train my biceps... will try same weights next time aiming for 12 & 8 reps....
